MOUNTAIN
BIKE FRAMES

This
is a typical cross-country mountain bike frame. It is meant to
be taken in the woods, exploring trails, or just regular riding
in the country. Of course, many cyclists use it in the city or
for touring (with narrower slick tires) because they prefer a
mountain bike to any kind of 700c bicycle, and in this kind of
use it will be better than other types of mountain bike frames
like freeride or downhill. Unless, of course, you are into urban
assault or other variations of violent riding. In that case, you
will find any regular cross-country frame will not resist to the
kind of stress that comes with repeated impacts. Companies don’t
give warranties against that sort of abuse no matter how much
emotion you can come up with after the fact. For the very simple
reason that the death of the frame occurs through no fault of
their own. Although this might not surprise you, some people have
the impression that warranties are meant to cover a wide variety
of aggressions, including high-speed collisions, high jumps, or
simply lending your bike to someone who soon will not be your
friend anymore…
It will be faster than other variations
of mountain bike frames because it is less upright than a freeride
frame and less overbuilt than a downhill monster. The angles are
typical of modern cross-country frames and the tubeset is a pretty
straightforward round oversized aluminum shape with a brushed
finish in natural unpainted colour. Many people like this shiny
metallic appearance. The downtube has a gusset near the head tube
for strength in case of collision.
Seat
collar size is 31.8 mm and seat post size is 27.2 mm. Front derailleur
is a clamp-on 31.8 mm. There are no disc brake mounts and weight
for a 16 inch frame is 1.93 kilo (4.24 lbs). No fork is included
and as is customary with this kind of frame, the geometry has
been designed for use with a suspension fork and the fork column
size is 1 1/8.
